Shiodome Station, Metro and railway station in Higashi-Shinbashi, Minato, Japan
Shiodome Station is a combined metro and railway station in Higashi-Shinbashi with underground platforms for the Toei Oedo Line and elevated tracks for the Yurikamome Line. The station has four operational tracks in total.
The station opened in 2002 following extensive redevelopment of the area in the late 1990s. This transformation changed the location from a freight terminal into a modern business district.
The name Shiodome refers to a historical tidal barrier from the Tokugawa shogunate era. Today the station sits within a modern business district filled with offices and shops.
Passengers must use separate ticket gates and navigate to ground level when transferring between the Toei subway and the Yurikamome line. Allow extra time for this connection between different rail systems.
The district around the station was built from an abandoned freight yard and now contains 13 skyscrapers. This rapid transformation makes Shiodome an example of Tokyo's urban redevelopment.
