The Chichibu District spans 796 square kilometers in western Saitama Prefecture, containing five municipalities: Ogano, Minano, Nagatoro, Yokoze, and Higashichichibu.
The district gained recognition when copper deposits were discovered in 708, leading to the creation of the Wadō era name and the minting of early Japanese coins.
The Chichibu-jinja serves as the principal Shinto shrine in the district, maintaining religious traditions that date back to ancient Japanese periods.
The district maintains a population density of 77 persons per square kilometer, making it suitable for residents seeking a less concentrated living environment.
The Chichibu incident of 1884 marked the district's history when local peasants initiated an uprising that resulted in severe penalties for 4,000 participants.
