Cosmosquare Station, Underground metro and railway station in Suminoe-ku, Japan
Cosmosquare Station is an underground facility in Suminoe-ku serving two island platforms with four tracks for both the Osaka Metro Chuo Line and Nanko Port Town Line. The structure spreads across multiple levels from street entrances above through a mezzanine with ticket gates down to the train platforms below.
The station opened on December 18, 1997 with a name selected by local residents through a public poll in 1988. The Yumesaki Tunnel, constructed in 2009, includes reserved space for a potential western extension to serve the planned Expo 2025 site.
The station name connects to Techno Port Osaka development on artificial islands in Osaka Bay. You can see how the surrounding area reflects this modern port district through its contemporary shops and infrastructure.
Visitors enter through street-level access points and then move through mezzanine areas to reach ticket gates. The dual-track layout with island platforms makes navigation fairly straightforward even during busy periods.
The station was deliberately designed with space for future extensions, visible in prepared tunnel sections reserved for the next phase of development. This forward planning shows how infrastructure projects in the area anticipate long-term growth.
