Fukuoka Dome, Domed stadium in Hawks Town, Fukuoka, Japan
Fukuoka Dome is a covered stadium in the Jigyō-hama district, used for baseball games and concerts. The roof is made of titanium plates that can open and close, while the seating areas accommodate different numbers of visitors depending on the event.
The construction was completed in the early 1990s and it was the first stadium in the country with a movable roof. The opening took place in spring 1993 and brought a new era for major sporting events in the region.
The building carries the name of a well-known telecommunications company and is closely tied to the local baseball club, whose supporters regularly fill the stands. The interior can be reconfigured for concerts by major international performers, with seating rearranged to accommodate a stage setup.
Access is via the Kuko subway line with a short walk from Tojinmachi Station. The facility is located near the harbor and is visible from a distance by its white facade and curved shape.
The giant display system on one of the walls shows replays and animations in exceptional size during games. This board was installed during a modernization in the late 2010s and ranks among the largest of its kind worldwide in baseball venues.
