Transit Center at Manas, Military transit center near Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
The Transit Center at Manas is a military facility located adjacent to Manas International Airport, approximately 30 km north of Bishkek. The installation housed barracks, communication centers, dining facilities, and recreational areas designed to support personnel in transit for military operations.
The facility was established by the United States in 2001 following the September 11 attacks to support operations in Afghanistan. Its mission concluded in 2014 when international military operations in the region ceased.
The facility maintained strong connections with local Kyrgyz communities while managing international military personnel from France, Australia, Norway, and Spain.
The facility was not open to the public and served exclusively as military infrastructure. Visitors could only view the site from outside the airport grounds at a distance.
The facility changed its name from Ganci Air Base to Transit Center, reflecting its altered operational role. The lease payments to the Kyrgyz government tripled during this transition period.
