Boseong County, County in South Jeolla, South Korea
Boseong County is a rural county in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, made up of gentle hills, valleys, and the Boseong River that runs through its center. Most of the hillsides are covered with tea plants, which gives the county its recognizable look.
The area was originally called Bokhol and received its current name, Boseong, during the Unified Silla period. Tea growing in the region goes back centuries and has shaped local life ever since.
Boseong is one of the most recognized names in Korean green tea, and the plantations here shape how the entire landscape looks. Rows of tea bushes cover the hills in every direction, giving the area a look that feels unlike anywhere else in the country.
The Daehan Green Tea Plantation on Mount Hwangseong is the most visited spot in the county and easy to walk around. The best time to come is in spring or early summer, when tea picking is underway and the plants are at their freshest.
Every spring, Boseong holds a tea festival where visitors can taste freshly picked tea and watch producers at work. It is one of the few places in Korea where you can follow the whole process from leaf to cup in a single visit.
