Mount Mudeung rises to 1,187 meters in elevation and extends across 75 square kilometers of protected natural landscape in South Korea.
The area underwent transformation from Muak Mountain during the Goryeo Dynasty to its designation as South Korea's 21st national park in 2012.
The mountain holds deep connections to Korean shamanic traditions, leading to historical names such as Shaman Mountain and Grave Mountain.
Visitors can access numerous hiking trails and facilities through Gwangju city, though the Cheonwang summit remains restricted due to military installations.
Natural Monument 465 features distinctive columnar rock formations that provide habitats for endangered species including otters, wildcats, and Mandarin ducks.
