Seoul Express Bus Terminal, Bus station in Seoul, South Korea
The Seoul Express Bus Terminal is a large intercity bus station in Seocho District, on the south side of Seoul, directly connected to the Express Bus Terminal subway station. The building is made up of several linked sections, with a large number of departure platforms, counters for different bus companies, and shops across multiple floors.
The terminal opened in the 1970s, when Seoul was growing fast and needed a central point for long-distance bus travel across the country. It has been expanded and rebuilt several times since then to keep up with the number of passengers using it.
The terminal is especially known during major holidays like Chuseok and Seollal, when people travel back to their home regions across the country. At these times, the station fills with families carrying food and luggage, and the departures board runs nonstop.
Signs throughout the station are in Korean and English, which makes it easier to get around even if you do not speak Korean. It is worth arriving a bit early, especially on weekends and holidays, as the departure platforms can get very crowded.
The terminal is actually split into two separate buildings, the Gyeongbu Terminal and the Honam Terminal, each serving routes to different parts of the country. The two buildings are connected and easy to move between, but knowing which one covers your destination saves time.
