United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, United Nations peacekeeping mission in Naqoura, Lebanon.
The mission operates military bases, observation posts and patrol routes along the border with Israel. It covers the southern districts and coordinates security operations from headquarters on the coast.
The organization was established in 1978 through Resolution 425 to monitor Israeli troop withdrawal. Its mandate expanded significantly after the 2006 conflict, and the number of personnel grew to over 10,000.
Soldiers and civilians from around 50 nations live in bases scattered across the southern region of the country. These teams work daily with local communities, schools and health centers.
Headquarters are located in Naqoura, a small coastal town south of Tyre. Facilities sit within a military restricted area and are not open for tourist visits.
The force monitors the Blue Line, a temporary border demarcation mapped by the United Nations after Israeli troop withdrawal in 2000. In addition to patrols, the organization runs projects building schools, water supply systems and medical care facilities.
