The Hill Club is a hotel in Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka, founded by British planters in the 1870s. The building retains its original appearance with high ceilings, wooden floors, and classic furnishings, while today offering about 39 rooms, multiple dining rooms, a reading room, and a billiard room with two tables.
The hotel was founded in 1876 by British coffee and tea planters as a private gentlemen's club before later opening as a guest hotel. This history shapes its appearance and traditions, which it has maintained for more than 140 years.
The hotel reflects the English colonial culture that shaped the highland town of Nuwara Eliya. Visitors can see how the architecture and furnishings preserve British traditions today, such as in the formal dining rooms where smart dress is expected.
The hotel offers four tennis courts, a fitness center, and table tennis tables on the grounds, while bicycles can be rented to explore the surrounding hills and town.
