Ikh Bogd Uul National Park

Ikh Bogd Uul National Park is a protected area in Bayankhongor Province that wraps around a major mountain and contains multiple habitat types from high meadows to dry steppes. The landscape transitions from softer alpine zones at lower elevations to harsher, more open terrain at higher altitudes.

The park was established in 2008 as a protected zone for a significant section of the southeastern mountain chain. Its creation responded to the need to preserve the varied ecosystems found in this highland region.

Local herders move their livestock seasonally through different elevations, following practices passed down for generations. This way of life shapes how the land looks and is used throughout the year.

Organized tours from Bayankhongor city provide the main way to reach the park, with local guides leading the way. The best time to visit is between June and September, when trail conditions are most favorable and weather is most stable.

The park contains Tergun-Bogd peak, which stands as the highest point in its mountain range. This prominent summit often goes unnoticed by visitors despite its commanding location in the landscape.
