Jardines del Recuerdo, Cemetery in Tlalnepantla de Baz, State of Mexico
Jardines del Recuerdo is a cemetery in Tlalnepantla de Baz in the State of Mexico, founded in the early 1970s and spread across spacious grounds with arranged graves and monuments. The facility features an orderly layout with rows of stones, scattered statues, green areas, an ecological garden section, niches for cremated remains, and gathering rooms for ceremonies.
The cemetery was founded in 1970 to provide comprehensive funeral services to the north of Mexico City, based on José Medleg Ríos's vision of integrating graves vertically into the landscape rather than spreading them flat. After Ríos passed away around 1997, his wife María Elena took over management and continued developing the site.
The cemetery is a place where families honor loved ones and cultivate memories together. Visitors bring flowers and spend time in the gardens, reflecting how remembrance is woven into daily life and community practice here.
The cemetery is open daily from early morning until evening, offering flexibility for visits, while offices are accessible Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and Sundays from 9 am to 3 pm. Well-marked pathways throughout the maintained gardens make it easy to navigate and locate different sections.
A striking feature is the oversized Cristo Rey statue on the grounds, one of Mexico's tallest, visible from a distance and offering visitors a moment for reflection. The statue stands as a prominent visual element within the gardens and shapes the experience of a visit.
