Goliath, Steel roller coaster at Walibi Holland theme park, Netherlands
Goliath is a steel roller coaster at the Walibi Holland theme park in the Netherlands, built with two trains of eight cars designed to carry 32 passengers in total. The track layout covers a distance exceeding one kilometer and rises to a height of roughly 47 meters (154 feet), winding through a sequence of drops and curves above the park.
The ride opened in March 2002 and was considered one of the fastest and most modern roller coasters on the European mainland at that time. Its construction marked a technical advance in the Dutch theme park sector and increased the park's appeal to visitors from several countries.
The collaboration between Swiss manufacturer Intamin and German engineer Werner Stengel resulted in this advanced ride design at Walibi Holland.
The ride reaches top speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour) and requires a minimum height for passengers to ensure safety. Wait times vary depending on the crowd level, while the ride itself lasts roughly two minutes and passes through several elements above the park grounds.
A technical feature of the track layout is a highly banked curve section that approaches a near-vertical angle and combines with a downward spiraling motion. This design creates a particular sensation of weightlessness and lateral force during the ride.
