Lumbini Province, Administrative province in western Nepal
Lumbini Province includes twelve districts in western Nepal and stretches from mountains through hills down to plains. The administrative region links urban centers with rural communities through a network of roads and local connections.
The administrative unit officially received the name Lumbini Province in October 2020, replacing its earlier numerical designation. Deukhuri was established as the capital of the newly named province.
Multiple ethnic groups reside in the province, with Magar, Tharu, and Khas communities forming significant portions of the population of 4.5 million inhabitants.
The province offers access to different landscapes, from mountain passes to flat areas, bringing varied travel conditions. Visitors should prepare for changing climate and terrain depending on which part of the region they explore.
Archaeological work in the Dang Valley uncovered Paleolithic tools along the Babai River, pointing to early human activity in this area. These findings show that people inhabited the region a very long time ago.
