Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate

Ad Dakhiliyah is an administrative governorate in central Oman with nine provinces including Nizwa, Samail, Bahla, and Adam. The territory includes several cities and villages scattered across a landscape of hills, valleys, and agricultural areas.

The region received its current administrative form in 2011, when it was restructured into a governorate under Oman's administration. This change was part of a broader reorganization of the Sultanate's governance structure.

The traditional markets here display local handicrafts and agricultural goods that visitors can see while walking through the streets. People gather daily to buy and sell items that reflect the skills and resources of the surrounding communities.

Visitors should know that Nizwa is the administrative hub and offers the best base for exploring the region. From there, the different provinces are easy to reach by car, and roads connect all the main towns together.

The territory holds a remarkable collection of medieval fortifications, most notably Bahla Fort, which appears on the UNESCO World Heritage list. These structures showcase building techniques that have lasted for centuries and reflect the region's military history.
