Al Batinah North Governorate, Administrative division in northern Oman
Al Batinah North is an administrative region along the Gulf of Oman coast in northern Oman. It extends from the shoreline inland with mountains to the west and fertile plains in between that support farming and settlements.
The region was once part of a single larger administrative area until 2011 when it was divided. This split created two separate governorates with distinct administrations for the northern and southern coastal zones.
Fishing villages and date plantations showcase daily traditions passed down through families in this region. Visitors encounter local customs in markets and coastal areas where traditional practices remain visible in how people work and trade.
Sohar serves as the main city and hub of road connections linking towns throughout the region. Most facilities and services are concentrated around major settlements, making them the natural stops for travelers.
The region holds one of the highest population densities in the country, making it a key hub for trade and economic activity. This concentration results from the combination of coastal access, fertile land, and established trade routes.
