Mimaropa, Administrative region in southwestern Philippines.
Mimaropa is an administrative region in the southwestern Philippines comprising five provinces: Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan. The area lies between the main island of Luzon to the north and the Visayas to the south, including both larger islands and smaller archipelagos.
The territory became a separate administrative unit in 2002 when it split from the Southern Tagalog region and was initially designated as Region IV-B. In 2016, Republic Act 10879 formally renamed it the Southwestern Tagalog Region.
The population of 3.2 million people speaks multiple languages including Tagalog, Romblomanon, Bantoanon, Cuyonon, and Hiligaynon across different communities.
Ferries and smaller boats connect the provinces, with Calapan serving as the regional administrative center. Puerto Princesa is the largest city and a central point for travelers in the area.
The regional name formed as an acronym using the first letters of each province: Mi for Mindoro, Ma for Marinduque, Ro for Romblon, and Pa for Palawan. This naming reflects the unification of distinct island territories into one administrative body.
