Laguna Lake, Freshwater lake in Luzon, Philippines.
Laguna Lake sits in the provinces of Rizal and Laguna and spreads over wide sections of Luzón. The body of water has a curved form and encloses a central island.
Several thousand years ago, the area was still part of a marine bay until geological processes altered the connection to open water. Volcanoes around the region continued to shape the surroundings.
Most villages along the shore rely on fishing and call the body of water by its Spanish name. At markets in the region, vendors sell the daily catch fresh under palm-leaf shelters.
The shore is flat in many places and lined with vegetation, which makes access easier or harder depending on the season. Boats run to different ports around the water.
A whole series of rivers flows into this body of water and provides a steady inflow, while only one outlet leads to Manila. This setup makes the water an important source for agriculture and fishing.
