Calabarzon, Administrative region southeast of Manila, Philippines.
Calabarzon brings together five provinces—Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon—in southwestern Luzon. The area runs from Manila's southern outskirts to the eastern coast, taking in mountains, lakes, and shoreline.
The region was formed in 2002 when the larger Southern Tagalog area was divided into two administrative units. Before that, the five provinces had been connected by trade routes and shared history for centuries.
The provinces within Calabarzon maintain strong connections to national hero José Rizal, with his birthplace in Calamba and numerous historical sites throughout the region.
Many travelers pass through on their way to beaches farther south or use it as a base for day trips from Manila. The provinces sit close together, so overland journeys tend to be short.
The name Calabarzon is an acronym of the five provinces and mainly appears on maps and official papers. In everyday life, people usually talk about individual provinces or cities instead.
