Manora Island

Manora Island is a peninsula near Karachi connected to the mainland by a sandbridge and positioned between the harbor and the sea. The landmass forms a natural protective barrier where a lighthouse and old fortifications stand.

A fort was built here in the 1790s to protect the harbor from pirates but was captured by British troops in 1839. The site then continued to serve as a strategic point for port control under British rule.

The area has been home to fishing families for generations who continue their traditional way of life by the water. You can see them casting nets in the morning and selling their catch along the shore.

Ferry connections run regularly from Keamari Harbor to the peninsula, making it easy to visit without your own boat. Food stalls along the beach sell fresh fish prepared in local styles and offer a good chance to try local cooking.

The lighthouse dates from 1889 and was designed by a Canadian engineer, making it an interesting example of early international cooperation in port development. The structure was a notable technical achievement for the region at that time.
