Lower Kachura Lake, Mountain lake in Skardu District, Pakistan.
Lower Kachura Lake is a mountain lake in Skardu District, Pakistan, sitting at around 2,320 meters above sea level and surrounded by steep slopes. The water is notably deep in places, and the shoreline opens onto views of the surrounding peaks.
The lake has long been part of the natural water network of Skardu Valley and was used by local communities for generations. As the valley opened to tourism in the later decades of the 20th century, it became a known destination for travelers from outside the region.
Lower Kachura Lake draws visitors from across Pakistan who come to sit by the water and take in the surrounding peaks. Boat rides on the lake are a common activity, and the shoreline tends to fill with families during warmer months.
The lake is about half an hour from Skardu town along a paved road, making it easy to reach for a half-day visit. Warm layers are worth bringing since temperatures at this elevation can drop sharply in the morning and evening even in summer.
A resort near the lake has converted an old aircraft fuselage into a restaurant and lodging space, placing it directly on the grounds. The wreck itself has become a point of curiosity that visitors often stop to look at even if they do not stay overnight.
