North Nazimabad Town, Administrative district in Karachi, Pakistan.
North Nazimabad Town is a tehsil, or sub-district, located in the northern part of Karachi within the Karachi Central District. It is divided into ten administrative units that cover a wide stretch of residential neighborhoods and mixed-use areas across the northern city.
The district was laid out in the 1950s as part of Karachi's rapid growth after Pakistan's independence, when the city needed planned areas to house a fast-growing population. What had previously been villages and open land was gradually transformed into a structured urban neighborhood.
The area is home to a large Urdu-speaking community, which shapes the local language heard in markets, schools, and mosques throughout the neighborhood. Visitors will also notice smaller communities speaking Pashto, Saraiki, and Punjabi, reflecting the mix of people who have settled here over the decades.
The streets follow a grid pattern, which makes it straightforward to find your way around by car or local transport. Since this is mainly a residential area, most shops and services are geared toward everyday needs, so it is best visited as part of a broader tour of northern Karachi.
The residential blocks were laid out in alphabetical order when the district was first planned, a system that is still visible today and helps residents navigate the neighborhood. This approach was part of a broader effort to give the new district a clear and lasting internal logic from the very start.
