Naltar ski resort, Ski resort in Naltar Valley, Pakistan.
Naltar ski resort is a ski area in the Naltar Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan, set in the Karakoram range at around 9,700 feet (2,950 meters) above sea level. The slopes run through a mountain valley and cover terrain for both beginner and experienced skiers, with options for alpine and cross-country skiing.
Pakistan chose this valley to host its national ski championships, which turned Naltar into the home of organized competitive skiing in the country. The area has been central to ski racing development in the region ever since.
The resort sits in a valley where local mountain communities continue their traditional ways of life while welcoming winter sports visitors. You can observe how these residents use the landscape and adapt to seasonal changes brought by tourism.
Reaching the resort from Gilgit requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle along a mountain road that can be demanding at any time of year. The ski season generally runs from December through March, so plan your trip around that window.
The Pakistan Air Force uses the area as a training site, giving the resort a military role alongside its civilian ski operations. This dual use sets it apart from most ski areas in South Asia.
