Park Szelągowski, Public park in northern Poznań, Poland
Park Szelągowski is a green space in northern Poznań that slopes through the valley of the Warta River. Dense trees and mature growth cover the grounds, creating a landscape suitable for walking and exploring.
This place began as a gunpowder factory established by the Szyling family in the 16th century. It later became a public space when its original industrial purpose ended.
The space once served as a center for shooting sports and social gathering, hosting large crowds who came for sport and refreshment. Over time its role shifted to become a quiet retreat where visitors come to walk and enjoy nature.
The park has several walking paths and seating areas spread throughout the grounds. A modernist Veterans House building stands within the property and is visible from the paths.
Hidden beneath the park is an iron-rich spring that stains the soil around it with rust-brown tones. This natural feature creates a distinct visual mark that most visitors pass by without noticing.
