International Douro Natural Park, Protected natural area along Portugal-Spain border, northeast Portugal.

The Douro International Natural Park spreads across steep cliffs and deep river valleys with varied rock formations along the Portugal-Spain border. The protected area features marked trails and observation points where visitors can explore the landscape and observe the region's wildlife.

The park was established in 1998 to protect the Douro river landscape and its wildlife across multiple municipalities on both sides of the border. This international designation came after efforts to preserve the region's unique natural features and ecosystems.

Local residents cultivate almond groves that fill the landscape with blossoms each February, a tradition deeply connected to how people here live with the land. This agricultural practice shapes both the appearance and the rhythm of daily life in the area.

Start at the information center in Mogadouro to learn about trails and the best observation spots throughout the area. Plan your visit outside the hottest months when walking the paths is more comfortable and enjoyable.

The park is a critical breeding ground for Egyptian vultures, large raptors that have become a symbol of this place. These impressive birds nest on the cliff faces and are one of the most remarkable sights for visitors exploring the canyons.
