Ar Rayyan

Ar Rayyan is a major settlement in Al Rayyan Municipality, the second largest population center in Qatar that sits adjacent to the capital Doha. The city extends across the eastern portion of the municipality and forms a large urban area with its own distinct structure.

The Battle of Al Wajbah Fort in March 1893 was a decisive clash between Qatari forces and Ottoman troops that led to Qatar's independence. This event marked a turning point in the region's history and established Qatar as a sovereign nation.

The name comes from an Arabic word meaning irrigation, connected to the water systems that once nourished farming in this low-lying region.

The area offers many schools and universities, including the renowned Education City, and connects to several stops on the Green Line of the Doha Metro. Visitors benefit from easy access through the modern transit system and a wide range of educational facilities.

Education City Stadium was built for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and features solar panels covering its roof. The venue, holding 40,000 seats, demonstrates Qatar's commitment to sustainable building practices in sports facilities.
