Russia Tower, Unfinished skyscraper in Moscow International Business Center, Russia.
Russia Tower is an unfinished skyscraper within Moscow International Business Center, planned to reach 612 meters across 118 floors. The structure was designed to contain 101 elevators and serve as one of the tallest buildings in the complex.
Work began in September 2007 with ambitious plans for a mega-structure, but halted in November 2008 when the financial crisis struck. The global downturn forced developers to suspend construction indefinitely.
The tower was intended to reflect Moscow's modern transformation and was designed by Norman Foster to shape the city's contemporary architecture with glass and steel. Its design followed international principles meant to characterize the business district.
The site sits in the business district with good transportation links via metro stations and buses serving the area around the complex. It is easy to access when moving through the center, though the unfinished structure itself is not open to the public.
The foundation area was later repurposed as a parking facility serving the business district. This practical adaptation shows how the frozen construction was incorporated into the neighborhood's ongoing infrastructure.
