Chornomorske, Urban settlement on Tarkhankut Peninsula, Ukraine
Chornomorske lies along the northern edge of Tarkhankut Peninsula, with streets extending toward the Black Sea coast at an elevation of 20 meters.
The settlement began as Kalos Limen in the 4th century BC, established by Chersonesus Greeks as a harbor city for maritime trade and agriculture.
The location maintained the name Ak-Mechet until 1944, referencing a white mosque with a tall minaret that marked the Crimean Tatar presence in the area.
The settlement functions as a base port for Chornomornaftogaz company operations, supporting offshore drilling activities in the Black Sea region.
The area experiences a cool semi-arid climate with annual precipitation of 398 millimeters and summer temperatures reaching up to 41.2 degrees Celsius.
