Imeretin Valley

Imeretin Valley is a protected lowland area stretching along the Black Sea coast between two rivers. The land here includes swamps, grasslands, and riverside sections that create a varied natural landscape where water shapes much of the terrain.

The valley received protected status in 1911, making it one of the region's earliest conservation areas. This early recognition reflected growing awareness of the need to preserve such wetland environments along the coast.

The valley is home to communities whose roots trace back several centuries, with local traditions and ways of life adapted to the wetland environment. The landscape itself tells the story of how people have coexisted with nature here over generations.

The valley is best explored on foot using marked trails that wind through different sections of the wetland. Spring and autumn are ideal times to visit when bird activity is highest and the ground is most accessible.

The valley supports more than 50 bird species living across multiple distinct wetland habitats that exist side by side within the same area. This patchwork of different ecosystems makes it a remarkable place for observing how different environments support their own wildlife communities.
