Ngor

Ngor is a small island located about one kilometer from the mainland, featuring sandy beaches and walking paths to explore. Traditional houses and simple structures shape the landscape, while the coastal setting defines the character of the place.

The island was founded in the 16th century by Lebou fishers and developed as a center for coastal fishing practices. These traditions continue to shape the settlement and its deep connection to the sea.

The island preserves traditional Lebou architecture with houses that reflect the fishing communities' daily way of life. Residents continue to use the space as they have for generations, while modern art on walls brings new creative expression to the streets.

Boats regularly shuttle visitors from Ngor Beach to the island, with the journey taking just a few minutes. The best time to visit is when the water is calm, and it helps to wear sturdy shoes since the paths are sandy and uneven.

The island sits at one of the westernmost points of the African continent and draws surfers and divers for this reason. Waters around it offer good conditions year-round for both activities, making it a special place for water enthusiasts.
