Altyn Asyr Bazaar

Altyn Asyr Bazaar is a large covered market in Ashgabat's Choganly district with around 2,000 shops selling fresh produce, spices, textiles, handicrafts, and carpets. The structure includes modern amenities such as telephone services, internet access, a hotel, and several restaurants for visitors and traders.

The market opened in 2011 as a modern replacement for the older Tolkuchka bazaar during a period of infrastructure modernization. It was designed as a major project to reshape the city's trading infrastructure.

The bazaar reflects Turkmen design traditions through its layout and decorative choices visible throughout. Local people use this space not only for shopping but also as a meeting point where neighbors gather and exchange news.

The market is well organized with designated areas for different types of goods, making navigation easier for visitors. A tall clock tower in the center serves as an orientation point and helps people find their way through the large complex.

When viewed from above, the market's layout forms a traditional Turkmen carpet pattern from the Ahal region. This thoughtful design merges modern function with cultural symbolism in a clever way.
