Turkmenbashy Mosque, Large mosque in Büzmeýin etraby, Turkmenistan.
Turkmenbashy Mosque is a large white marble structure in Büzmeýin etraby featuring four minarets that rise to 91 meters and a central dome decorated with geometric patterns on the exterior walls. The complex includes separate prayer halls for men and women with a total capacity of 10,000 people.
A French construction company completed this religious complex in 2004 under the direction of President Saparmurat Niyazov of Turkmenistan. The site marks an important moment in the country's development and the legacy of that political era.
The interior walls display inscriptions from the Quran and the Ruhnama, showing how traditional Islamic texts blend with modern Turkmen literature in the design. Walking through the halls, visitors notice this combination in the decorative elements throughout the space.
The site is located about 7 kilometers west of Ashgabat along the M37 highway and is accessible by car. Underground parking accommodates 400 vehicles for visitors.
The mausoleum of former President Niyazov sits within the same complex, joining a religious structure with a political monument. This combination is something visitors often do not expect to find together.
