Rize, Coastal city in Eastern Karadeniz, Turkey

Located between the Black Sea and mountains at 6 meters elevation, Rize features green hills and tea plantations across its landscape.

The city, first mentioned around 130 AD as Rhizius, was part of the Georgian province of Chaneti until Ottoman incorporation in 1547.

The introduction of tea cultivation in the 1940s transformed Rize into the primary tea production center of Turkey, influencing local traditions.

Rize connects to major destinations through the Black Sea coast road and the new Rize-Artvin Airport, which opened in 2022.

The region produces both tea and kiwi fruit, with numerous gardens and plantations spread throughout the city and surrounding areas.
