Rize

Rize is a coastal city in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey, situated on low terrain between the sea and mountains. The landscape is defined by soft green hills and expansive plantations that spread across the land.

The area was known as Rhizius in ancient times and later fell under Georgian rule before being incorporated into the Ottoman Empire in 1547. These layers of history continue to shape the city's cultural heritage today.

Tea shapes daily life and social routines in this city since its introduction roughly 80 years ago. The way people gather, work, and spend time together revolves around the plant and harvest seasons.

The city is easily accessible via the coastal road along the Black Sea, and since 2022 a local airport provides another connection option. Visitors should expect changeable weather and a green, partially hilly environment.

Besides tea, farmers here also grow kiwis, making the area an unusually diverse growing region. These two crops create a distinctive visual mix across the surroundings with different plantations side by side.
