Etimesgut

Etimesgut is a district in Ankara Province, roughly 25 kilometers from the city center, featuring large residential complexes and public housing developments. The area spans about 273 square kilometers and combines residential neighborhoods with industrial facilities, an airport, and shopping centers.

Settlement in the area dates back to around 2000 BC, with evidence of Phrygian civilization from the 8th century BC and later occupations by Lydians and Persians. These ancient traces show that the region was shaped by different cultures long before its modern development.

The district grew from a 1924 housing project for Turkish refugees fleeing Bulgaria into a suburban area with multiple neighborhoods. This transformation from emergency shelter into a planned community reflects broader changes in how Ankara expanded during the 20th century.

The district is easily accessible by public transportation and offers a mix of established residential areas and modern shopping centers like Metromall AVM. Visitors will find essential facilities including shops, schools, and medical services throughout the area.

The area is planned to host a security campus that will serve as headquarters for Turkey's national intelligence organization and defense ministry. This major development will significantly reshape the district's infrastructure in coming years.
