Dongshan is an administrative district in Tainan covering roughly 124 square kilometers of rural land. The area is divided into sixteen villages and features several temples alongside coffee farms scattered across the landscape.
The territory was once a Dutch colonial trading post called Dorko before developing into a rural settlement over time. It became a formal administrative district of Tainan City in 2010.
Temples throughout the area function as both religious centers and places where locals gather together. Festivals held regularly here keep traditional practices and customs alive in the community.
The area is rural in character, so traveling by car or scooter works best for exploring it. Most services and amenities are concentrated in the village centers.
