Shanlin District

Shanlin District is an administrative area in northeast Kaohsiung that covers hilly terrain divided into seven neighborhoods. The landscape shifts between concentrated town centers and broader green areas filled with forests and mountains.

The area was known by a different name until a 2010 administrative reform renamed it Shanlin. This change occurred when the region became part of the larger city of Kaohsiung.

Several communities live here, including Hakka people who maintain their traditions through local crafts and cooking. These practices remain visible in neighborhood markets and gatherings throughout the year.

National Route 21 connects the district to nearby regions, making it easy to reach by road. Local shuttle services operate within the area to help visitors move around.

A waterfall and a sculpture museum are two local attractions that give this area character for visitors interested in nature and art. These sites reveal how natural features and artistic expression blend together in the region.
