The hotel was built in 1901 as a vacation home for a Japanese colonist and retained its name through the decades. During Japanese rule, Crown Prince Hirohito visited the lake and spread its reputation, later a vacation residence was constructed on this site for Chiang Kai-shek, which was eventually transformed into an upscale hotel.
The name Hanbi Lou reflects its role as a place that has welcomed guests across different eras and continues to do so today. The dining experience here features dishes made with local ingredients like lake fish and regional grains, showing how the kitchen honors the area's food traditions.
