Fongshan Shuangcih Temple, Buddhist and Taoist temple in Fongshan District, Taiwan.
Fongshan Shuangcih Temple is a Buddhist and Taoist temple in Fongshan District with two main halls dedicated to different deities. The front hall holds an altar for Mazu, while the rear hall houses a large statue of Guanyin.
The temple was founded during the Ming Zheng period and received a Mazu statue from Quanzhou in 1753, brought by devoted believers. This figure was placed alongside the existing Guanyin shrine and has defined the place ever since.
This place brings together the worship of Mazu, the sea goddess, and Guanyin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, showing how Taiwan blends different religions together. You can see both deities honored equally, and both shape the daily prayer life of those who visit.
The temple sits on Sanmin Road and opens early in the morning until late at night every day, so visitors can come at different times. The grounds are easy to reach and offer space for prayer and exploration.
Master carpenter Chen Ji Tong designed the temple's structure in the 1930s with special architectural elements that blend Buddhist and Taoist traditions. His craftsmanship shapes the place's appearance to this day.
