Ch’ing-lung Falls, Natural waterfall in Nantou County, Taiwan
Ch'ing-lung Falls drops 116 meters along the Jiazouliao Stream, creating a vertical cascade through the dense forest of Shanlinhsi Nature Park. The water plunges over multiple sections, forming a dramatic waterfall system surrounded by thick vegetation.
The area surrounding Ch'ing-lung Falls transformed from private property into a municipal park in 2014, opening access to the public. This change made the waterfall accessible to visitors for the first time.
The name Ch'ing-lung means Green Dragon in Chinese, linking to traditional beliefs about water spirits inhabiting natural water features. Visitors walking through the area can sense how local culture connects the landscape to these spiritual ideas.
The waterfall trail covers about 5 kilometers round trip, starting from the Theme Hall parking area and passing by the Shyrjing Trail. Morning hours offer the best conditions for hiking, with fewer crowds and good light.
An unusual geological feature shows water cascading in one direction while the underlying rock slope tilts in the opposite way. This opposing movement of water and stone creates a striking natural phenomenon.
