Europa Point, Headland at southern Gibraltar, United Kingdom
Europa Point is a headland at the southern tip of Gibraltar where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. The location features a lighthouse, a mosque, a shrine, and wide views across to the North African coast and the Rif Mountains.
The lighthouse was built between 1838 and 1841 to guide ships through the strategic Strait of Gibraltar. The location itself has been a key navigational reference point for centuries as one of the world's busiest sea passages.
The Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque and the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe sit side by side, reflecting the religious diversity that defines the place. These two sites show how different faiths have coexisted and shaped daily life here.
You reach the location via Europa Road, where parking, a shop, and a café are available. The site is easy to walk around, and you can explore all the buildings and surrounding views in one visit.
The location is home to one of the southernmost lighthouses operated by Trinity House. Surprisingly, it also serves as the home ground for Gibraltar's national cricket team.
