Adirondack Park, State park and National Historic Landmark in northeastern New York, United States.

The Adirondack Park extends across 6 million acres of forests, encompassing 3,000 lakes, 30,000 miles of rivers, and diverse mountain landscapes in New York State.

The New York State Legislature established Adirondack Park in 1892 to protect water and timber resources, making it one of the first Forever Wild Forest Preserves in America.

The name Adirondack originates from the Mohawk term meaning bark eaters, referring to the Algonquin tribes who gathered food from local trees during winter months.

The park maintains more than 2,000 miles of marked trails for hiking, while its lakes and streams provide opportunities for canoeing, fishing, and water activities.

Unlike most protected areas, Adirondack Park combines public and private lands, with 2.6 million acres owned by New York State and 3.4 million acres dedicated to communities.
