Caroline County

Caroline County is an administrative division in eastern Virginia, positioned roughly 30 miles (48 km) north of Richmond and 32 miles (51 km) south of Fredericksburg. The county seat of Bowling Green handles local government functions, while Port Royal provides river access along the Rappahannock.

The county was founded in 1728 and named after British queen Caroline of Ansbach. Early settlement centered on tobacco farming, which became the foundation of the region's colonial economy.
