Milwaukee City Christmas Tree, Christmas tree at City Hall in Milwaukee, United States
The Milwaukee City Christmas Tree stands on Market Street between City Hall and the Frank P. Zeidler Municipal Building in downtown Milwaukee. The tree reaches about 35 feet tall and is selected for its dense form and balanced shape.
The tradition started in 1913, making it the second oldest municipal Christmas tree display in the United States. Only New York City has an older continuing tradition of this kind.
The tree brings residents and community groups together each December for performances and holiday gatherings. People gather here to mark the beginning of winter celebrations in a shared public space.
The tree is lit during December months and can be viewed from Market Street, which is easy to reach on foot. The area offers convenient access and is centrally located, with parking and public transportation options nearby.
In 2008, the selected tree arrived at the ceremony in two separate pieces, creating an unexpected challenge. The team had to quickly resolve the situation to ensure the annual celebration could proceed as planned.
