Maidanak Observatory, Astronomical observatory in Qashqadaryo Region, Uzbekistan
Maidanak Observatory is an astronomical research facility located on a high mountain in the Qashqadaryo Region. Multiple large telescopes there allow scientists to observe stars, planets, and other celestial objects in detail.
The facility was established in 1970 and became one of Central Asia's main centers for astronomical research. From the beginning, it focused on systematic study of the night sky from this high-altitude location.
The observatory brings together astronomers from around the world who work side by side conducting research and sharing discoveries. This international gathering of scientists makes it a meeting point where people from different countries collaborate on understanding the universe.
The location sits high in the mountains, so plan your journey carefully and allow time to adjust to the altitude. The region experiences clear weather often, particularly at night, making visits more comfortable during certain seasons.
The observing conditions here rank among the world's best with many clear nights throughout the year. Astronomers value this location especially because the thin air and high altitude make stargazing exceptionally good.
