Museo de Ciencias de Caracas, Science museum in Los Caobos district, Caracas, Venezuela

The Museo de Ciencias de Caracas is a natural history museum in the Los Caobos district of Caracas that houses more than 150,000 objects. The collection includes preserved animals, fossils, and ethnographic items from Venezuela and Africa, organized in separate thematic sections.

The building was designed by architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva in neoclassical style and opened on July 24, 1940, after construction between 1935 and 1940. This structure marked an important addition to the city's scientific infrastructure during a period of growing interest in education and the natural sciences.

The museum preserves items that show how people explore and understand the natural world of Venezuela. The exhibitions reveal a focus on bringing local wildlife and geological features closer to the public eye.

The collection can be visited on several days of the week, and guided tours are available during opening hours to offer a deeper understanding of the exhibitions. It's best to wear comfortable shoes since the various exhibition areas require walking around the premises.

The entrance hall displays a six-meter-tall preserved giraffe skeleton and a reconstruction of Tachiraptor Admirabilis, one of the first dinosaur fossils discovered in Venezuela. These spectacular specimens offer an immediate impression of the paleontological treasures found deeper within the museum.
