Cuc Phuong National Park, Nature park in Ninh Bình, Vietnam.
Cuc Phuong is a nature park in Ninh Bình, Vietnam, that covers wide limestone mountains and tropical rainforest. The forest shelters numerous plant and animal species distributed across several vegetation zones from valley to mountain heights.
The park was founded in 1960 as the first national park in Vietnam and began a new era of nature conservation in the country. In the following decades, programs to rescue endangered species and study diverse ecosystems were developed.
The name Cuc Phuong comes from the local language and refers to the characteristic shape of the mountains that surround the area. Visitors today can walk along forest paths and observe how researchers and rangers care for and protect rare animals.
Trails lead through different areas of the park and offer varying difficulty levels for walks ranging from a few hours to full-day tours. On-site accommodations range from simple rooms to more comfortable options with meals from the region.
A special center within the park is dedicated to breeding and rehabilitating rare primates such as the Delacour's langur, of which only a few individuals remain. Some of the oldest trees in the forest have reached an age of over a thousand years and rise up to 45 meters high.
