Roman Catholic Diocese of Xuan Loc, diocese of the Catholic Church
The Diocese of Xuan Loc is a Catholic diocese in the southern region of Vietnam, with its main cathedral dedicated to Christ the King in Long Thanh. The diocese encompasses several small parishes with modestly designed churches, typically located near busy streets or quiet neighborhoods, serving as centers for worship and community gatherings.
The diocese was established in 1965, created from territory that originally belonged to the Archdiocese of Saigon. In 2005, portions of its land were transferred to help establish the new Diocese of Bà Ria, marking a significant reorganization to serve growing local communities.
Saint Joseph is the patron saint, and his feast day on March 19 draws many families to the church for prayer and honor. The community actively maintains religious traditions in daily life, gathering regularly for celebrations that reinforce their shared identity and faith.
The diocese opens most days for prayer and community activities, with regular Sunday services that draw families and neighbors. Visitors who wish to attend should participate respectfully in customs such as standing during hymns, and be aware that celebrations are especially active during religious holidays and special occasions.
The current bishop Jean Đỗ Văn Ngân has led the diocese since 2021, bringing new direction to its operations and community programs. Despite significant changes throughout Vietnam's modern history, this institution has remained a steady presence, continuing to serve believers through shifting times.
