Humla, Administrative district in Karnali Province, Nepal
Humla is an administrative district in northwestern Nepal that covers mountainous terrain with significant elevation changes. The landscape ranges from river valleys to high-altitude peaks across its geography.
The district was reorganized as one of Nepal's 77 districts following a major administrative reform in 2015. Before this change, it had been structured differently within the Karnali zone.
Different ethnic communities call this region home, each with their own way of life and customs. The Khas people inhabit the southern areas while Tibetan communities live in the northern zones.
Seven rural municipalities make up the administrative structure, with Simikot serving as the main center. The airport in Simikot provides the primary connection for travel in and out of the region.
Wild yaks were rediscovered in this region in 2014 after being thought extinct for many years. This finding highlighted the area's remarkable ecological importance.
