Giants Stadium, Multi-purpose stadium in the United States of America
Giants Stadium was a sports venue in East Rutherford, New Jersey, situated just a few miles west of Manhattan. The structure contained over 75,000 seats arranged around an oval field with grandstands on every side.
The facility opened in October 1976 and served as home to the New York Giants and New York Jets for more than three decades. Demolition in 2010 cleared the site for the present MetLife Stadium.
The name comes from the New York Giants football team, though fans traveled from across the broader New York area to watch their teams. The venue held great importance for supporters who made it a gathering place on game days.
The site sits within the Meadowlands Sports Complex, which now houses other facilities and maintains good parking and road access. You can visit the neighboring MetLife Stadium, which occupies the same grounds.
Pope John Paul II held Mass here in 1995 before a crowd of more than 80,000 people. The event ranks among the largest religious gatherings ever held at a sports venue in the region.
