Bezirk Dornbirn is an administrative district in Vorarlberg in western Austria. It encompasses three municipalities: Dornbirn, Hohenems, and Lustenau, which together form this administrative region.
The district was established in 1969 when it separated from Feldkirch district and became an independent administrative unit. Hohenems received town status in 1983, making it the last municipality in Vorarlberg to be granted this distinction.
The district hosts multiple educational institutions, including the Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences, which offers programs in business, engineering, and social work.
The area is best explored on foot or by public transport, as the three municipalities lie relatively close together. Visitors should note that important administrative services are located in each municipality's center.
Hohenems, within the district boundaries, received town privileges in 1983, making it the most recently designated town in Vorarlberg.
